Quilt BOM

I'm thinking that the free "Snowbound" block of the month pattern from Bunny Hill Designs would make a cute little winter quilt for the grand-daughter or maybe just one to have at Gram's house.

A new pattern is available each month for 12 months. The BOM free pattern last year was also very cute "A Tisket A Tasket." That pattern is now available for sale on their website.

I haven't tried to piece on of their appliques so don't have any insight to share at this point.

Time to do some quilting

In the ensuing four years since I last posted, I have worked on a wide variety of piecing projects - some of which have made their way into actually pieced quilt tops - none unfortunately who have made their way into finished quilts.

Last fall my granddaughter put together her first quilt top and was so disappointed when her mother told her that it wasn't finished yet that she still have to add the batting and backing, quilt it and add binding.

Of course, she has never seen her Gram do this with any of her quilts! While I do laugh about this, I did realize that I had not set a very good example.

My focus for July will be to finish up the quilt tops that have been pieced; to finish up the in-process piecing of quilt tops so they can be finished; and organize fabrics and patterns into project packs. Well, that might be too much to accomplish in July but at least I have a goal to do someting.

Two more closures

It is sad to see quilt stores close. Last week, I learned about Main Street Mercantile in Hillsboro closing and just yesterday I learned that the one in the Willamette area also closed.

I was in the new quilt shop in the Haggen's Shopping Center in Oregon City called Let's Quilt. Very cute shop, lots of wonderful quilts on display for the classes, and great satellite radio music -- they had the 40s on and it was great to just shop to music -- no commercials, no talking. Their prices seemed a little high but that might be the price we will have to pay in the future to be able to touch and see the fabric rather than ordering it online. Got me to thinking about the Quilting B and wondering if they were still there. Good thing I don't quilt because it is the in vogue thing to do!

The only bad news I could see about this new shop is that it is right next door to a Cold Stone Creamery ice cream shop -- it you happen to have any money left over from fabric shopping, you can just drop it next door on a $4 ice cream!

Quilt Inspiration

This is one of my favorite quilt sites to visit. Go to "Quilt Blocks Galore" to see thousands of quilt blocks.

I especially liked the Double Aster Block which is in the current month's grouping. Definitely a good contender for some of that solid fabric in the stash.

Marcia Hohn posts 24 quilt blocks each month, many of them original designs. Definitely worth a look. Some others that I liked were "Fair Play" and "Gram's Old Quilt."

What is Quilt by Design

I've created this blog to share quilts in progress, future projects, inspirations, etc. with my daughter, sisters and friends. Of course, I really should call it Piecing by Design since I have only actually "quilted" a couple of small items. I have plenty of quilt tops done though.
